As a game engine programmer, my favorite hobby is - you'll never guess - engine programming. I'm working on an app for years now, that can be used to search and edit fractals in real time. To sum it up in a nutshell how it works, the rendering runs on the GPU, using a thing called brute force path tracer, which makes sure that the rendered image is pretty much photorealistic. In return, because of its quality, it could take a minute or so to render even one frame. That's why my dear musician colleague gave me the creeps when he said "Hey dude! This app is awesome! Let's make a video clip! Trust me it'll be fun!"
So yeah.. how could I have said no... It was time to start coding and prepare the code for an animated clip. To save some rendering time, most of the shots are four-minute long loops. Some of the animations were made by hand - with the help of curves -, some were made with a special tool. This tool can bind fractal shapes to the various frequencies in the spectrum of the song, to make things a bit easier.
Finally, after days of non-stop coding and endless rendering, we're now ready to present you the result of our joint effort, our first video clip.
